Research
I am conducting my research in the context of the SenSafety project (local, global). SenSafety's objectives are twofold. The first one is to increase (perceived) security in the city by means of a network of intelligent lamp posts (iLP) that keep watch over us with cameras and sound sensors. iLPs are able to autonomously analyze situations out of the ordinary and call for help if necessary. The second objective is to inform citizens and authorities about potential emergency situations, such as dangerous levels of CO2 or other substances that define air quality. Information is gathered by sensors in ordinary smart phones and by sensors attached to bikes, utility vehicles and public transport.
My research interests lie in the field of reconfigurable wireless sensor networks. In particular, I am investigating two aspects of current WSN. The first one is on energy efficient, fast reprogramming methods for large scale sensor networks. The seconds one is on the role of IPv6 (i.e. 6loWPAN) in sensor networks, with ephasis on service discovery and application protocols.
My supervisors are Johan J. Lukkien and Pieter J. L. Cuijpers.
Tools
mDNS/DNS-SD support for Contiki
Within SAN, we developed a port of the mDNS/DNS-SD protocol to Contiki. The code is available at github.
Compression and patching on sensor nodes
Compression is a set of compression and patching algorithms ported to sensor nodes.
Twitter on sensor nodes
STwitter is an adaptation of the Twitter client in Contiki to run over 6LowPAN using SuperTweet as a proxy.
Education
I am involved in giving the following courses:
Student projects
If you are interested in conducting a project in one of the areas that I am working on, please contact me by e-mail or by visiting me in the office. Currently, I am interested in working with a student on the following topics:
- Service discovery and provisioning in lossy networks of low powered devices
- Algorithms for effictient and reliable distribution of data in networks of low powered devices (i.e. disseminating binary files)
